Overview

Located within these pages you will find seven adorable Chinese Crested puppies from our most recent litter, born Sept. 21st, 2012. The Chinese Crested is an elegant little toy dog who craves human companionship and thrives in families with gentle children. They are VERY affectionate, playful, loving, and kind animals that are unique in appearance. They come in three varieties: (true) Hairless, Hairy Hairless (slightly fuzzy with a thin layer of hair), and Powderpuff (fully double-coated). Both types may be present in the same litter. Chinese Crested dogs are hypo-allergenic & extremely friendly. There’s nothing like them!

Introduction

The Hairless Chinese Crested (slight misnomer as many have some distribution of hair on their body) has soft, human-like skin and tufts of fur on its head and ears (the ‘crest’), tail tip (‘plume’), and feet (‘socks’). It may have small tufts of fur elsewhere. The Hairless Chinese Crested ranges from pale to black. The Powder Puff Chinese Crested has a thick double coat with a very soft, silky topcoat. It may be groomed with a full face of hair, in which case it has the appearance of a Terrier, but more commonly the snout is shaved. All Hairless Chinese Cresteds carry the Powder Puff gene as a recessive trait, as the mix of two Hairless genes is fatal in unborn puppies. This means that two Hairless Chinese Cresteds may give birth to a PowderPuff Chinese Crested. Both types of Chinese Crested are good fur allergy sufferers (pun intended).

At birth, it sure looked like we had 4 true hairless and 3 powderpuff puppies. Over the next few weeks, however, they really came into their own. 7-Up and Puppio are the most hairless of the bunch – 7-Up is quite unique with a stripe of hair down his back and a pair of “furry chaps” down his legs. Puppio has a thin and sporadic cropping of hair. Jaybird and Patches are also hairless but have a thin layer of light hair covering their bodies – we’re pretty sure Mittens would fit into this category as well. Nosey and Gingerbread are full Powderpuff.

All of the puppies have their own photo album pages which can be seen by clicking the tab above in the menu bar or by clicking on their names below. As well, each puppy has an information and details page outlining their bio and purchasing information.

Puppies

Powderpuff

Forever Homed“GingerBread” is the litter rascal. He has a purely playful heart and is the ‘ginger’ of the litter in his reddish brown hair.

Forever Homed“Nosey” has had his black nose right from birth. We haven’t experienced that before as most have some element of pink on their nose when they are brand new.

Hairy Hairless

Spoken For (Awaiting Pickup) -“JayBird” was born looking very naked with black skin and some hair on his head which is black and white. Due to his nakedness we called him JayBird (as in “Naked as a JayBird”!)

Hairless

Forever Homed -“Puppio” is a sweet little man. He is wee but plays mightily. He loves to snuggle up on a chair in the sun beam.

Spoken For (Awaiting Pickup) – 7Up” is a unique little man, hairless, with a tiny stripe of hair down his back and hair on his legs that make it look like he’s wearing a pair of furry chaps (lending itself to a good butt scruffing!).

JayBird Sitting Pretty Mittens! Hi, Patches. Gingerbread looks like he's laughing after a playful romp!

General Information

We would like to stress that we are not breeders and all puppies are raised in our family home, socialized with their litter mates and our two young children. As such, these puppies are accustomed to children and family surroundings.

They are being sold with the intention that they will be loved as family members and not as show animals. This is not to say that many would not make a show quality animal, just that it is not our intention that they be so and there is no guarantee in this regard.

These puppies are not registered and do not have papers.

As of right now the puppies are paper trained.

All puppies have received their first vaccinations, heart worm medications, and have a clean bill of health. Their information from their checkup will be provided.

The puppies are currently eating Acana Junior and a small bag to last you a few days will be provided with the puppy.

Food allergies are VERY common in this breed and care should be taken in this regard. Symptoms that we have found of food allergies include runny eyes, soft stools or diarrhea, and itchy skin that often manifests itself in chewing of the feet.

Our animals in particular have shown indications of allergies to grains and, therefore, should be avoided. Peanut butter and other peanut based materials should also be avoided. We love the Acana food as all meats are human grade and the only source of grain is low glycemic and hypoallergenic steel-cut oats. The Acana is full 20% of fruits and vegetables, including Red Delicious apples, Bartlett pears, butternut squash, and Burbank potatoes. 60% of the Acana ingredient list is chicken, fish, and eggs. We have found that our puppies do well with this particular food.

Should you choose to offer a different food just please be sure it is grain and peanut free.

Chinese Crested’s are hypoallergenic and perfect for families with allergies. Be aware, however, that every situation is different and you should probably check them out for yourself to see if any reaction occurs.

Chinese Crested’s are extremely agile, love to run, and can do very well in agility training. You will be amazed at how fast these dogs can run – they are built for speed!
